Chair of St Peter vacant (Sedevacantism)
The Catholic Church teaches that a heretic cannot be pope because heresy separates a person from the Church. This is a dogmatic fact affirmed by popes, councils, and theologians throughout history. Indeed, Pope Paul IV explicitly declared that the election of a heretic as pope is invalid, even with unanimous support.
