MHFM: This is an interesting quote from Pope Clement VIII against attending non-Catholic funerals or burials. He also prohibited heretics from serving as godparents or sponsors of a child’s baptism.
Pope Clement VIII, Cum Sicut, July 26, 1596: “And in order that those same Italians keep away from marriages with heretical women and from the burials of heretics, let them not allow their sons to be raised from the sacred font by heretics, nor let them in their turn presume to raise the sons of heretics, unless they be baptized by a Catholic priest according to Catholic practice.”
