Luther Cannot Be Called A Christian In Any Way

It’s interesting to note that in discussing Luther’s view that souls in Purgatory could sin and merit, St. Robert Bellarmine described Luther’s position as manifestly heretical. This is noteworthy because certain defenders of the Vatican II Sect have wrongly claimed that only persons, not positions, can be described as “manifestly heretical”. We refuted that false claim here. But this passage provides additional support for our point.
St. Robert Bellarmine, De Purgatorio, Book 2, Chap. 2: “Indeed that this position of Luther is also manifestly heretical is proven by the testimonies of Scripture and the fathers.”
St. Robert Bellarmine also stated that Luther could not be called a Christian in any way.
St. Robert Bellarmine, De Purgatorio, Book 2, Chap. 2: “Note that Luther cannot be called a Christian in any way according to the position of Augustine, but plainly a heathen since he doubts concerning a matter about which Augustine says that no Christian can doubt.”
