Against the Co-Redemptrix heresy
Pope Pius IV, Council of Trent, Session 25: “… the Saints who reign together with Jesus Christ offer prayers to God for men; and it is a good and useful thing to invoke them, and to supplicate them humbly, and to have recourse to their prayers, their help, and their assistance, in order to obtain graces and favors from God through His Son Jesus Christ, our Lord, who alone is our Redeemer and Savior… If anyone teaches anything contrary to these decrees, or holds opinions to the contrary, let him be anathema.” (Source)
Pope Eugene IV, Council of Florence, Cantate Domino: “It [the Church] firmly believes, professes, and teaches that never has anyone conceived of man and woman been freed from the dominion of the devil except through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, the mediator between God and men, who, conceived, born, and having died without sin, by His death alone overthrew the enemy of the human race by destroying our sins, and who once again opened the entrance to the heavenly kingdom which the first man had lost by his own sin together with all his descendants…” (Source)
Since there exist no exceptions to dogmas, and since the Church has infallibly defined that Jesus Christ alone is our Redeemer and Savior, our faith in papal infallibility leads us to conclude that the title of “Co-Redemptrix” attributed to the Blessed Virgin Mary is heretical.
